Bespoke Metal Coatings and Custom Finishes
We finish our custom metal keyrings to suit your needs. Your design may be printed or etched, moulded or stamped, but the end finish can change the look at feel dramatically. We use a variety of enamel for colouring our metal keyrings, and optional epoxy covering for protection. Here are the options:
Hard Enamel
Hard Enamel (Cloisonne) is a long lasting material that comes from Japanese mineral ore. With Hard Enamel colours are painted onto metal and baked in a fire at 800° C. Colours cannot be mixed so this baking process is done with every colour. This is the most expensive colouring technique as it is labour intensive and time consuming; it does however last without decaying for hundreds of years.
Imitation Hard Enamel
Imitation hard enamel was only invented within the last 30 years. It is less expensive and available in a greater variety of colours than hard enamel. Production times are generally quicker and the finished result can give a fantastically smooth and shiny product.
Die Struck Soft Enamel
Soft enamel is the most affordable and common form of enamel colouring. Similar to hard and imitation enamel but they have a much softer finish. For this reason we recommend coating any soft enamel with a clear epoxy that will protect and enhance the colours. We use soft enamel regularly with our ‘die struck’ and ‘photo etched’ keyrings. With exceptional appearance and affordability it’s easy to see why they’re the first choice finish on our custom metal keyrings.
Epoxy Coating
Epoxy is an optional coating we apply to the surface of our keyrings when using soft enamel. It protects the enamel from colour fading and cracking.
